Anyway it is a basic and short read that will be great as a step-up book

I remember reading one of the Cam Jansen books when I was younger but I cannot put my finger on it. More than likely it was this one but again my memory won't place it.

Anyway it is a basic and short read that will be great as a step-up book. There are a few words that may end up causing problems but with the dinosaur names at least there is a pronunciation guide for those who don't know them. Otherwise word-wise there shouldn't be much other problems.

There isn't much of a plot or background to the story. Basically point A, point B and point C then The End. Since of the hurried plot you don't get much mystery to work with or even truly much of a motive.

What really irritated me with this book was the characters. Cam is the annoying know-it-all that seems to bounce around. She has this amazing photographic memory and gets in trouble but not enough trouble that it really stops her from getting down what she needs to. Her best friend is the typical follow-along type who complains and doesn't want to but then still gets dragged in since he chooses to be loyal.

Definitely a quick read for many....

About the Author
Daniel G. Amen, M.D., is a clinical neuroscientist, psychiatrist, and brain-imaging expert who heads up the world-renowned Amen Clinics. What to do to keep your brain in as good a state as possible

The brain is important and I really like the objective of this book. Get get advice of food supplements and exercise. We get explanation of how the brain deals with certain behaviour. The book covers a lot of different areas, which is good given the book's objective.

What I don't like is that the book seems to be written for the average American. The problem is however that the average American will not buy the book. So we are told that we eat a lot of junk food so we need supplements. But the author seems to imply that we need these supplements even if we eat very healthily to start with. I would have much preferred a book that talks directly to the real target audience of the book.

Finally, the book refers to a lot of academic research, which is good. However, the author fails to note that there are lots of studies casting doubt on many of the referenced studies. The consequence is that that author is able to put forward lots of studies arguing for lots of food supplements or changed behaviours. He author cares much less about whether the findings have been found repeatedly or whether the findings have large effect size.

In my mind this book is between three and four stars. It is a pretty good 101 on the subject. Since there is no book covering 201 and you have to go to the PhD course 801 to get to the next step, this book is probably as good as it gets at this point in time. So I give the book four stars.

Another book to check out is Weil's "Healthy Ageing" (sorry but product link doesn't work), which deals with similar themes as this book.

A superb source of information about the brain

In this audio CD Dr. Daniel G. Amen very clearly explains the functioning of the various parts of the brain and how they interact with one another and with the rest of the human body. It is not necessary to have any prior knowledge about the brain to understand it because it is basic but full of rich knowledge. So people who are already experts about the brain will also not be bored. Because Dr. Amen diverts from the conventional psychiatric approach to the brain and professionals in psychiatry, psychology and neurology have a lot to gain by listening to Dr. Amen whether they agree with him or not provided that they listen modestly and with an open mind.

Dr. Amen also explains how the brain can be damaged and how to protect it, the type of physical and mental exercises, diet, vitamins and supplements and thinking patterns necessary to develop and utilize the full potential of the brain.

He also talks about various psychiatric disorders their diagnoses and treatments, when someone should seek professional psychological / psychiatric help etc. He talks about the importance of looking at the brain images like and orthopedist looks at X rays or MRI's of the skeleton before diagnosing. This is not to replace other methods in psychiatry or clinical psychology but to assist those techniques in diagnosis and treatment. Many psychiatrists neglect looking at brain images claiming that it is unnecessary. I am no psychiatry expert but I believe many psychiatrists belittle brain imaging technology because they are not trained in it. Obviously, to be helpful the brain images must be carefully interpreted by professionals trained to do so. I have personally witnessed once in another clinic that brain imaging was not carefully interpreted to daignose but was used only to charge the patients. This is a bad intentioned application that can not be generalized. I believe that with proper use this technology is even more promising in the future.

Dr. Amen is a very good talker in the CD. The questions raised and their explanations follow a clearly understandable and enjoyable sequence. Anybody interested in developing his / her knowledge of the brain,in maximizing his / her brain's potential and / or in solving certain emotional / psychological problems will benefit from listening this audio CD or reading the book several times regularly.

This fun twist on a familiar song envisions Old MacDonald as a capable, bespectacled sheep, who's busy building something "in her shop." One by one her animal friends and neighbors drop by and take up various tools a hammer ("with a tap tap here/ and a tap tap there"), a file ("with a scritch scratch here/ and a scritch scratch there") and so on and join in on the project. Soon, the whole barnyard is busily employed until the very end when Old MacDonald unveils a scale replica masterpiece of their very own home ("and in her shop she had a farm!"). Preschoolers will want to join in the bouncy cadences and alliterative sounds of Shulman's version of the cumulative rhyme. Wolff's (the Miss Bindergarten books) bright gouache and pastel illustrations drop subtle hints to the project in process. Soft shading ratchets up the cozy factor, while such touches as gold hoop earrings and a floral apron for Old MacDonald, a chicken picking apples from a tree and a very tidy mouse who sweeps up wood shavings at the bottom of each page add character to the barnyard as well as pizzazz. Endpapers designed as a pegboard neatly display (and label) the tools used within the book (and more). Ages 2-6.

reSchool-Grade 2-A crafty ewe gathers her friends in her well-equipped workshop to saw, drill, hammer, chisel, file, screw, and paint various bits of wood. This delightful twist on the classic song (with loads of fun sound effects) is a must for do-it-yourself children. Ms. MacDonald is equally at home in her apron or her tool belt. Wolff has provided spectacles for "old" MacDonald, as white hair is not a clear age indicator on a sheep. The endpapers identify a nice variety of hand tools while the illustrations "done on Arches Cover in gouache and pastel with brown-colored pencil line" introduce a pleasing cast of characters. Full-, double-, and partial-page cartoon illustrations support the text agreeably with just enough detail to entertain without clutter. The building project-a model farm complete with barnyard animals-is unveiled on the last spread. The little mouse that endeavors to keep the shop clean throughout the process is as dear as any of the characters. Children will love this book's perky prose and pleasing pictures.

This is a wonderful book - for the mom of a two year old boy who loves animals, Old McDonald and tools - this book couldn't be better. He loves the noises, the illustration and the story. I love to see how excited he gets. A wonderful twist on Old McDonald had a Farm

Great book - cute and good values

This book is definitely worth having. Our 2 1/4 year old son (who likes tools and loves music) loved the twist on a familiar and loved song. The depiction of Old MacDonald as a sheep and as a female!!!! who has a woodshop!!!! makes this a must have book to balance out, for both boys and girls, the lack of gender-neutral characters and over representation of gender-stereotypes that is ubquitious in both books and songs. The sounds used for the various tools are not that good so you may want to make up your own but otherwise the pictures and text are good and what Old MacDonald and the animals are building makes for a cute surprise ending.

• Valette Sopp received her Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology and Child Development from The Ohio State University. She worked with the University in developing their Child Development Field Experience, and has supervised students within that program. She has worked with and been a teacher of young children for seventeen years. Enjoying artistic pursuits, Valette also enjoys painting murals for homes and businesses and currently resides with her husband in Ohio.
• Tonya Southwick lost her second child, Stephanie, during infancy due to congenital heart defects. She enjoys a full life with her husband, three surviving children, family and friends. Currently residing in Ohio, Tonya enjoys outdoor activities, volunteering, and exploring the arts in her free time.
• Scott Southwick is credited for graphic design, illustration photography and photographic edits. As the oldest of Tonya's children, he is the son to whom she delivered the sad news of his sister's death many years ago.

This book is a wonderful resource for parents and a comforting story for children whose lives have been forever changed by the death of a child and sibling. When my daughters were 5 and 7 years old, their long-awaited and beloved baby brother passed away from a congenital heart defect during his infancy. Our family was devastated by this unexpected loss nearly 23 years ago. As heartbroken parents, it was difficult to comfort our sad and confused children. We coped as best we could with the help of the not-quite-right resources available to us at that time. I sure wish "Sad About Sammy" would have been one of them! This book sensitively touches on many of the same questions my daughters asked about their baby brother. With every turn of the page, the authors include parental guidance, suggestions and advice alongside the children's storybook text. The illustrations are soothing. There's a visual felt-like softness to the imagery that reminds me of a patchwork quilt. "Sad About Sammy" is a simple yet deeply bittersweet message about the seasons of life and death and new life again. Thoughtful gift for young children after the death of a sibling

This is a wonderful gift to buy for a family who has lost a baby or child and has other children. The family can read it together, and it has parent helps in talking with the surviving children about their sadness with their siblings' death. Very unique...loved it, and bought multiple copies to keep on hand to share with others if the unthinkable happens. Also a wonderful "In Memory" to donate to your local public library for others to be helped.

A rare, beautiful and priceless resource for those grieving a child's death

As a pastor, Sad about Sammy is a rare, beautiful and priceless resource that is invaluable to a family grieving a loss of a child. For this review, I sat with a licensed counselor to discuss this book which we received directly from the author whom we know. Here are a few of our observations:

• The illustrations are so beautiful and inviting. Any child can be “in the story” because of the subtle way faces are not shown.

• The children’s story is so accessible, sensitive & creative yet profoundly healing.

• The wisdom to make it faith-based without excluding anyone. A parent could easily imprint their faith into the story.

• The Parent’s Notes were well-researched and well-written. They mentor a grieving parent to help a surviving child which is so needed since grief turns us all inward. If that wasn’t enough, it actually helps the parents through their own grief not just their child. Better yet, a parent and child can grieve and heal together – very beautiful thing.

Maybe there are other resources like this in the marketplace but we have never seen anything like it.

Last, you will know from reading the dedication that one of the authors experienced the pain of a child dying. I believe this is what gives this book the feeling of being with the family in the depths of grief yet points them to a heaven-touching hope. I strongly recommend this book to counselors and clergy for ministering to those in the midst of this heart-breaking time of loss.

HELP for finding the RIGHT surgeon!

important book for anyone thinking about face lift. not to discourage consumer. but to inform them of one of the biggest letdowns: doctors who get good at one technique are reluctant to keep up with newer techniques, even if they are improvements. We all like to do what we do best. Learning curves are a problem, especially if practice must happen on paying clients. but one of the most common complaints is a realization a year after the facelift surgery that the 6-month youthfulness was still a bit of swelling, and the 12 month result isn't as good as the 6-month 5-star review a person gave online. Dr. Hamra explains techniques, and the one technique that is harder to find a doctor who will do. A technique that will keep your facelift satisfying for 10 years or more. I've interviewed 3 surgeons so far and all of them are behind the times technique-wise. Thing is, i really liked the personalities of two of them and wanted to trust them with my face. But after reading this book, i realized i wasn't finished interviewing.
