Not sure if she liked it or not

Bought this for my step-daughter to help her understand how different high school would be. Not sure if she liked it or not, but I found it to be very helpful as a parent.

Incredibly insightful

I just bought this book for my nephew and was so excited about it that I wanted to let lots of people know about it. (I'm also buying it for a beginning teacher as well as for a couple other teens on my Christmas list). Using sections written by students who had troubles, screwed up, and then learned from their mistakes is very effective because it's often difficult for teens to hear things from their parents, but will listen and accept basically the same message from a third party!
Ms. Dueber has an uncanny ability to jump right to the heart--the heart of the subject and also to the heart of the reader. This is a no-nonsense, practical (and sometimes humorous) approach to show teens how to make good choices, respect themselves and others, enjoy life, and be successful to boot. I think it would be helpful for parents to read this book to become reacquainted with what it's like to be a teenager today. I was especially impressed by her sensitivity towards students who are different in one way or another. The entire book seems to radiate her love for kids. Thank you, thank you, Ms. Dueber!

Outstanding Book for Adolescents

This fabulous, comprehensive book is a must see for high school students and their parents. Each chapter contains valuable information pertinent to the high school student's successful transition through adolescence. As a high school counselor, I strongly recommend this publication for students who may need some guidance in high school and college planning, as well as academic concerns such as math anxiety, testing, reading, and time management. In addition, a variety of key adolescent issues, including getting along with teachers, stress management, and other teenage traumas are discussed in an easily digested format. Julianne Dueber's educational expertise and phenomenal connection to the teenage perspective provide a powerful resource for high school students. Well done!
